Final Fantasy IX: Game Review

Reviewed by Matthew on 15th May 2016
Our Rating: 8.0/10.0
Platform(s): PS1, PS3, Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows
Genre(s): Role Playing Game

Final Fantasy IX originally released on the PlayStation 1 in 2000 was a great JRPG. Square Enix,   have re-released the game for the iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows with improved graphics and added more features to these ports.

Currently I am playing this on Android version and the controls work pretty well. Square has ported the game to touchscreen instead squashing a joypad on the screen like Final Fantasy 7. You controlled the characters with floating stick or tapping the screen in the direction you are going. When interacting with NPCs or objects an icon with appear on the screen. Furthermore, you can swipe outside the text box to choose your response, then tap a button to select when you’re chatting.
The 3D models of the major characters have redrawn texture that, look amazing. However the NPCs are low resolution and blurry. Also, the pre-rendered background seems to be not up dated from the PlayStation 1 port. I understand why because the upgraded pre-rendered. Backgrounds would have made the game files bigger but it would have been nice.
However, the time turn- based combat is still interesting and fun and also the touchscreen handled and flows wonderfully when in combat. Also they are new features in the mobile port. For example, 9999 damage, no random encounters, full battle meters, auto, attack, fast forward and level and gil max. This is for players who want to experience the story quickly without bother of leveling up their
characters. In my opinion I don’t think they need these features because it ruins true nature of the game but you don’t have use it anyway.
Overall The cast of characters is fresh and interesting especially Vivi, the combat is intriguing and the plot wonderful and heart-warming. Although the Final Fantasy IX a bit expensive it still worth buying it as is on of the finest JRPG ever created on the Android or iOS.

Pros:
- compelling story
- mesmerising characters
- great turn-based combat\
- tounchscreen controls work perfectly
- new 3D models of main characters

Cons:
-a bit  expensive
- low resolution pre-rendered background

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster: Game Review

Reviewed by Matthew on 13th May 2016
Our Rating: 9.0/10.0
Platform(s): PS3, PS4, PS Vita , Microsoft Windows
Genre(s): Role-playing

Final Fantasy is one of my favourites gaming franchises. When I heard they were going to make a HD remaster  of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 PlayStation 2 port,  I couldn’t have been happier as this was my favourite and first one I play. With both games, having extra story content, improved graphics, and re-recorded musical score this gives long-time fans new things to see and  for first timer to experience great JRPG.

Both games have stunning turn-based combat which are the reason I was hook for the 40-50 hours of gameplay contents. From Final Fantasy X fantastic conditional time battle system, where you can swap party members in and out combat, and X-2 wonderful Dress Sphere Grids where character’s change job. They are many things to do thing in this game like finding and the ultimate weapons and secret bosses which will prolong your play through.
X Conditional Time Battle System
X-2 Dress Sphere Grids
In the remaster version the audio and visual have been enhancements. Therefore, the musical score and sounds effect sound amazing. The upgrade graphics from the jagged edges in the original makes the world of Spira look superb. However, the new main character models look great although, the characters face a bit awkward in my opinion.
Also the FMV video in HD are definitely wonderful but thing the that annoys me about these FMV sequences and cutscenes is that you still can’t skip them making it frustrating before a difficult boss fight. Final Fantasy Franchises musical score are reason I like these games. In this installment the music has been revamped and sounds great but I prefer the original score.

Overall Final Fantasy X/X-2 are two wonderful JRPG games when it was released in PlayStation 2.  With the release of HD remaster fan can come back and experience it vibrant story, mesmerising  musical score and great gameplay and if it is your first time playing it, you will understand why this is one of the best JRPG of all-time. Also on May 13 2016 Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remaster was released on steam.

Pros:
- stunning turned based gameplay
-  enhance HD visuals
- more content
 - beautiful musical score

Cons:
- awkward characters faces
- can't skip cutscenes

Assassin Creed 2: Game Review

Reviewed by Matthew on 9th May 2016
Our Rating: 8.0/10.0
Platform(s): PS3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows
Genre(s): Action-Adventure

Assassin creed 2 is the second installment and is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft. This game occurs across two timelines; in the  21st century you play as Desmond Miles who relive the past of his ancestor genetics memories through the ‘animus’. However, the main narrative takes place Renaissance Italy during the 15th and early 16th where you play as Ezio Auditore da Firenze the other main character and explore Florence, Venice, Tuscany and Forli.

Assassin Creed 2 has a wonderful and well written story where you guide Ezio, a suave Italian dude with a fancy cape on his quest for vengeance against those responsible for betraying his family. Ezio is likable character not only because his looks awesome and has a nice accent, it because you care about him and about the people who are important to him. I like how they use real people from the history of that time. For example Leonardo Da Vini plays the role of helping Ezio on his journey by decrypt codes and builds all your gadgets for you so.

The game graphics looks amazing. They really did a good job depicting the Renaissance Italy nicely and worked hard on the boisterous, stereotypical Italian characters with all that bravado and personality. The gameplay mechanics has improved from the first installment from the fluent free running and the combat is innovative and not hard to master.  The mission varies from assassination, jumping puzzles and carnival game which make the game interesting and not repetitive like the first installment. Also there's many collectibles to collect and side quests for those hard core gamers.
However, when playing as Desmond in the modern day is bit bland and in my opinion it not needed as they not much to do and slow the pacing of the game. Furthermore, the graphic detail when playing outside the animus looks a bit bad compare to rest of the game

Overall the game is fun and enjoyable to play with likable characters and solid gameplay and it has improved all the flaws from its predecessor.

Pros:
- Likeable characters and great main character
-  wonderful graphics
- variety if missions ans weapons

Cons:
- boring outside the animus
